Addition With Regrouping Two 3 Digit Numbers

Addition of numbers can be performed by placing the numbers in column form one below the other. The add the digits column by column to find the result.

Let us perform the following addition

348 + 62 = ?

We will place the numbers such that the hundreds, tens and ones digit are placed in the columns.

In the case we are adding a 3 digit number with a 2 digit number we will assume that the hundred position is vacant.

We will first add the digits at ones place that is 5, 9  and the result will be 14

Now 14 is greater than 9 so the tens part of 14 that is 1 will be carried over to the tens place and 4 will be placed in the ones column of the answer

Then we will add the digits at tens place that is 6, 4 and that carry that is 1 and the result will be 11.

Now 11 is again greater than 9 so the tens part of 11 that is 1 will be carried over to the hundreds place and 1 will be placed in the tens column of the answer

Then we will add the digits at hundreds place that is 1 and the carry that is 1 and the result will be 2 which will be placed in the hundreds column of the answer.

The final result will be 214.
